Windows XP Tablet Edition

I am foremost a Mac user. There were just too many quirks in XP that drove me crazy. Nonetheless, my recent experiences with Tablet PCs have begun to warm me back to using XP. Also, I’ve been waiting a long time for a Mac tablet and I refuse to wait any longer (I admit that I’m not much of a typist).

I do cross-platform support, so I am familiar with XP and I must admit that I was quite impressed with XP Tablet Edition. Combined with Microsoft OneNote, Windows has a pretty solid product offering. The combination of a well thought out organizational system with the ability to add handwritten notes makes for what I would consider the most useful offering from Redmond that I’ve seen since the release of XP.

There are three features in particular that I like. One, the ability to take handwritten notes, including whatever drawing one can imagine. Two, OneNote’s ability to move handwritten sections around within the same page or to other pages. Three, Tablet XP’s handwriting recognition is very impressive and easy to use. I can be pretty sloppy in my handwriting. Regardless, Tablet XP was able to discern quite a bit of my scrawl. Corrections are quick and easy.

Since getting my G5 PowerMac, I’ve put the old Powerbook aside and picked up a Windows laptop to start re-learning XP, mostly through using Outlook and OneNote. I’ll add more thoughts on my cross-platform switch in upcoming post.
